Capturing the quiet moment before the storm, ‘Mechanical’ depicts a cyclist checking over his bike before a challenging race, as preparation is a key component for any journey. His incomplete jersey has hints of the African print and reveals the layer of bold ink colours of red, gold and green in the background, along with streaks of gold liquid in parts of the painting to represent the richness of the cyclist’s identity.
